Technology has transformed how human trafficking is organised.
Social media, digital platforms, AI and online payments can enable recruitment, manipulation and exploitation, but technology can also be part of the solution.
Join Humans for Humans for a timely conversation on how innovation can help detect trafficking, protect vulnerable people and create a safer digital environment.
How can we turn technology from a tool of exploitation into a tool for protection?

Welcome and Opening note from Humans for Humans.
Overview
Technology is rarely neutral. While digital tools, AI, and global payment networks drive progress, they are increasingly weaponized to control, threaten, and exploit vulnerable individuals. Today, human trafficking and digital abuse extend directly into private homes through screens—often without the victim's immediate knowledge.
The rapid normalization of non-consensual image manipulation and generative AI has dramatically lowered the barrier to abuse. Deepfake technology is far more than distorted media; it is a vector for blackmail, psychological coercion, and digital exploitation. When human beings are reduced to training data for synthetic exploitation, it represents not innovation, but a fundamental breach of trust and safety.
Yet, the same tools that enable exploitation can be engineered to disrupt it.
This panel brings together tech innovators, policymakers, legal experts, and frontline advocates. Together, we will examine how ethical AI, protective product design, robust policy, and cross-sector collaboration can dismantle digital exploitation and turn technology from a tool of abuse into a shield for protection.
Key Objectives
Expose Emerging Threats: Analyze how rapid advancements in AI and digital platforms lower barriers to trafficking, grooming, and non-consensual image abuse.
Bridge Innovation and Ethics: Evaluate platform accountability, ethical AI design, and systemic interventions needed to eliminate exploitative technology.
Advance Victim-Centered Solutions: Explore how digital tools and intentional design can support recovery, mental health, and long-term safety for survivors.
Mobilize Cross-Sector Action: Drive actionable dialogue between tech leaders, regulators, and civil society to build safer online environments.
Guiding Themes
Exploited from home: How technology is allowing criminals to invade our private spaces and exploit children and adults from their own home. Sometimes without their knowledge. How do we detect this? How can we prevent it?
From a selfie to a deepfake: How emerging AI technology is expanding the accessibility to tools used for abuse. What kind of guidelines and restrictions should be imposed on AI tools? The role of inclusive design in creating safer, less exploitative platforms.
Caring for the victims: We often read headlines like “10 girls were rescued from a trafficking network”. What happens to the victims after they are rescued? How can technology create spaces for healing?
Prevention and Counter-Measures: What can we develop, or which policies can we implement, that prevent abuse from happening? How can we reach the entire population with these conversations? What’s the role of national and cross-border collaboration?
