Psychotherapy, or usually just "therapy," is a form of treatment aimed at relieving emotional distress and mental health problems. Provided by any of a variety of trained professionals – psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, or licensed counsellors – it involves examining and gaining insight into life choices and difficulties you are facing.
Therapy sessions refer to meetings between you and a licensed provider with a goal of improving some aspect of your life.
Psychotherapy encompasses many types of treatment and is practiced by a range of clinicians using a variety of strategies. The critical aspect is that the client or patient works collaboratively with the therapist and can identify improvement and positive change over time.
Most therapies in wide use have been well-tested and deemed effective. Though it may at first feel difficult to seek out therapy, the benefits of successful therapy are literally life-changing.
Mental health support doesn’t necessarily mean therapy, you can request a conversation with one of our therapists, any time, with no commitment.
Most people – even those with a strong support system and no diagnosable mental illness – can benefit from mental health support at some point in their lives.
If you’re experiencing prolonged periods of anger, sadness, or anxiety; are struggling with relationship conflicts or communication problems; are coping with a specific painful event, like the death of a loved one, a breakup, or the loss of a job; or are grappling with questions of identity or self-esteem, it may be time to try either short- or long-term therapy.
We have authorized mental health professionals available to talk you and discuss your needs and expectations. As we are building an international community, we will try to match you with a therapist with your cultural background, or that speaks the same language, to facilitate communication and the process of healing.
That will be up to you and your therapist. You can request just a conversation and then decide if you would like to continue with more sessions.
We recommend a minimum of 3 sessions. If you decide that you want 10 sessions, and in the end of those sessions you realize you want more ,you can always extend your treatment, in agreement with your therapist.
Getting mental health support is always a voluntary process and if you feel like you want to quit the process, you just have to notify your therapist.
Absolutely! Our counselling services are free of charge for human trafficking survivors and for the professionals working in the field.
